(Milwaukee, WI) — The Bucks avoided disaster in their season opener by beating the Philadelphia 76ers 118-117 at Fiserv Forum.
Milwaukee held a 19 point lead in the second quarter before Philadelphia methodically worked back into the game. The 76ers erased the Bucks lead and went up by eight in the fourth quarter, but Milwaukee took control with a 19-2 run.The Bucks hit their free throws down the stretch to keep Philly at an arm’s length until the buzzer.
Damian Lillard poured in 39 points including 17-17 from the foul line in his Milwaukee debut. He set a Bucks record for most points in a debut performance. He added eight rebounds and four assists.
Giannis Antetokounmpo had 23 points and 13 boards. Brook Lopez had 13 and Bobby Portis 10.
The 1-and-0 Bucks host Atlanta on Sunday evening.
