GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – Following the Rasul Douglas deal, the Green Bay Packers cornerback room will face the daunting task of containing the Los Angeles Rams’ duo of talented receivers.
“They’ve got a really good receiving core,” said Matt LaFleur on Wednesday. “Obviously, Matthew Stafford is as good as anybody at being able to throw the football. They got (Tyler) Higbee. They’re getting their run game going much better. I feel like they’ve revamped their offensive line.”
For the Rams’ offense, Cooper Kupp and rookie Puka Nacua have proven to be an effective one-two punch. With 795 receiving yards this season, Nacua is now ranked third in the NFL. When he and Kupp have been on the field together over the last four games, they both rank in the top 20 in yards per route run, according to PFF.
“They’ve got an explosive offense, and it’s a challenge because they’ve got a lot of pieces that they can throw the ball to, and I think they’re doing a good job with their ground game as well,” LaFleur continued.
When asked about the hole trading Douglas would cause, GM Brian Gutekunst said, “It made it a little tougher to think about doing that. Just because of where we are injury-wise, with Jaire not being able to play a few games and Stokes being where he’s at. I do like the young guys in that room—Stokes, Valentine, and certainly Jaire, who sounds like he’s getting back to full health, which will be nice. So I like players in that room, but losing a guy like Rasul this time of the year is tough, but I expect those guys to fill the gaps.”
Gutekunst further stated that the price Buffalo was offering for Douglas was “too good to pass up,” as the Packers will now own five picks in the top 100 in the 2024 NFL Draft.
