MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – As the Milwaukee Bucks continue to get used to having a new head coach and a new star point guard, Bucks’ star Giannis Antetokounmpo says the team needs to play better.
Antetokounmpo acknowledged in an interview with Sports Illustrated how tough the first four games have been, but he doesn’t like to blame anyone for their inconsistent start to the season.
“It’s a struggle,” Antetokounmpo said after the Bucks lost by 19, 130-111, to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night.
“Okay, we can make excuses—there’s a new player, there’s a new coach, there’s a new coach—we can keep on making excuses and think that it’s going to be okay, but that doesn’t work in life. That doesn’t work like that,” Antetokounmpo continued.
Giannis and Damian Lillard have struggled when playing on the court together during the Bucks’ first four games. Lillard shot 4-9 from the field, scoring just 15 points on Wednesday night against Toronto in 31 minutes of play.
“You have to figure out solutions, and right now, our solution is that, oh, we have a new player and a new coach, and oh, we’re going to be better in Game 40. No. We have to get better. We have to play together,” Giannis said.
“We have to be clearer on what we try to get from offense. We have to be more clear about what we’re trying to accomplish defensively and who we are going to let attack us because you’ve got to live with something. You cannot stop everything. We can keep on figuring out solutions. Right now, we’re not there yet.”
The Bucks will look to get their offense back on track when they play their first in-season tournament game on Friday night when they face the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden at 6:30 CST.
