MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Despite Craig Counsell managing the Milwaukee Brewers since 2015, the team does not look like they will be receiving a discount.
According to Curt Hogg and Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Counsell “will not be compelled to take a hometown discount” due to his desire to reset the market for management in Major League Baseball.
Counsell has interviewed with the New York Mets and Cleveland Guardians since his contract with the Brewers ended on Tuesday.
According to Hogg and Rosiak, Counsell will remain with the Brewers, but only if Milwaukee meets the best offer he receives from another organization.
The most likely source of that offer is New York, where Steve Cohen, the owner of the Mets, put together the most expensive team in MLB history last season.
