MADISON, WI and ST. CLOUD, MN (WSAU) — The Badger men scored three unanswered goals late to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 5-4 win on Friday in a top-five college hockey showdown with Michigan.
The Wolverines scored two goals in each of the first two periods to build their lead before Lucus Cruz sparked the Badger rally with five minutes to go in the second with a power play goal. Simon Tassy added a power play goal early in the 3rd to level the score at 4. Owen Lindmark netted the game-winner with just over three minutes remaining in the contest.
Kyle McClellan stopped 28 shots to earn the win in goal.
Wisconsin is now 8-1-0 on the season and 3-0 in B1G play. They’ll match up with Michigan again this evening at the Kohl Center.
Meanwhile, the Badger women remained perfect with a 4-2 win over St. Cloud State in WCHA play. The Huskies scored an early goal to take a 1-0 lead but that quickly evaporated when Wisconsin cashed in a pair of power plays to close out the first period.
Kristen Simms scored twice for Wisconsin. Ava Murphy and Britta Curl also scored in the win. Jane Gervais made 20 saves including nine in the final period to preserve the win.
The Badgers and Huskies will wrap up their WCHA series on Saturday afternoon in St. Cloud.
