Schofield, WI (WSAU)– On Saturday evening, South Area Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER), received a call around 7:30 P.M. that there was an active fire at a duplex on Foothill Avenue, located in Schofield. Firefighters from multiple departments were dispatched to the scene.
Eric Lang, the Deputy Chief of SAFER, stated two people were in the home when the fire started. The two were able to safely evacuate the home. The fire started in the garage, and then spread to the left side of the duplex. The fire did not damage the right unit.
The fire also consumed a truck, which had flames plummeting out of the hood. It took firefighters over ten minutes to apprehend as flames kept reigniting. Due to the mass amount of smoke, a firefighter was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
By 8:30 P.M, crews continued to put out hot spots and started the investigation process.
Neighboring tenants at the apartment building next door had been asked to evacuate. The apartment complex was not affected.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
