STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The City Clerk in Stevens Point will be busy preparing for as many as four elections in the new year.
That includes spring non-partisan elections, an August primary, and the Presidential election in November. And since the ballots don’t count themselves, Mayor Mike Wiza and City Clerk Keri Yenter are putting out the call for poll workers to help out.
“You can contact the City Clerk’s office for more information. There is also information available on the city’s website,” said Wiza. “[Clerk Yenter] does have to go through and certify that you meet all of the requirements; everyone is held to the same standard, but then you can get on to hang out and help people vote.”
Requirements for being a poll worker include passing a standard background check, which Wiza says the city does for all employees, and being able to attend a training session. The City Council will also have to sign off on the worker list before it’s final.
Workers have the choice to be paid $14.50 per hour or to volunteer their time.

Wiza is also looking for help in at least two of the five Alder districts, where the incumbent City Council Representative has filed non-candidacy papers for the 2024 election. Those are District 2 and District 6. He says anyone in those districts, or any of the other four districts up for election, can contact the City Clerk as well for information on how to begin the nominating process when it opens on December 1st.
“There are no requirements other than that you are 18, have no unpardoned felonies, and are able to vote in your district,” said Wiza. “It’s a pretty low bar. But I would ask that if you have a passion for your community you consider [running] because that’s really all it takes.”
Districts 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 are up for election next year. The odd-numbered districts (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11) are up for election in odd-numbered years.
