MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Both D-1 schools in the state opened with wins on the first night of the regular season in mens basketball on Monday.
Wisconsin overwhelmed Arkansas State 105-76 and Marquette dumped Northern Illinois 92-70.
The Badgers had four players in double figures led by Chucky Hepburn who was 7-10 from the floor for 20 points along with six assists and three steals.
AJ Storr had 15 points, Max Klesmit 14 and John Blackwell 12. Nolan Winter added six points and seven rebounds.
The Badgers shot 65% from the field and forced 17 turnovers in the win. They return to action Friday night hosting Tennessee.
7th ranked Marquette got points from 11 different players in their win led by Kam Jones with 20. Tyler Kolek had 14 and Oso Ighodaro added 13 along with seven rebounds.
The Golden Eagles will host Rider on Friday night.
