MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Badgers will have one of their top recruits back on the bench on Friday night following two separate run-ins with police.
According to On3, Two days after being charged with possession of marijuana on October 29, Gus Yalden, a four-star freshman forward, was placed on leave of absence, as revealed on November 1.
Yalden received his second fine in two months after being cited for underage drinking during the season’s opening football game on September 2.
“Today is his first day back [since the days off],” Gard said told the media on Wednesday. “Getting him back to practice I think is step one of what he is going through. So we’ll just continue to take that day by day too.”
“We are in full support of Gus and will always be here for him and his family. Gus is part of the Wisconsin basketball family and even though he won’t be on the court with us right now, we’ll always do everything we can to help him. We look forward to his return,” Gard continued.
Yalden, a native of Appleton, Wisconsin, was a four-star prospect after graduating from La Lumiere High School. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, he was the No. 19 power forward and the No. 115 overall prospect for the 2023 cycle.
A UW representative confirmed that Yalden would be on the bench on Friday as he rejoined the team during practice on Wednesday.
