RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — It’s not the news that winter sports enthusiasts wanted to hear.
Granite Peak Ski Resort will not open for the 2023-’24 season on November 22nd as originally planned due to warmer conditions that have slowed down the snow-making process.
An Inevitable Announcement: Psst! We regret to inform you that we won't be opening for lift-serviced skiing and riding…

“Our dedicated team is diligently putting the finishing touches on our facilities, ensuring everything is perfect for your return to our legendary slopes for our 86th season of skiing here in Wisconsin,” writes GM Greg Fisher on the Granite Peak website. “We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time, and we can’t wait to welcome you back to our legendary, winter wonderland soon.”
Fisher adds that current conditions, which call for some days in the 50s next week, will not allow them to pin down an opening date for now. “Until we experience a sustained cold stretch, we won’t be able to pinpoint an exact date, and unfortunately, we don’t foresee one in the immediate future.”
Granite Peak had fired up their snow guns in late October, with an eye towards opening on November 22nd.
