MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Both the Wisconsin Badger men’s and women’s hockey teams are #1 in the latest national polls.
The Badger men moved up to #1 despite not playing a game over the weekend. Last week’s top-ranked team was Boston College, who went 0-1-1 against #13 Maine. Denver, the #2 team in the previous poll, went 1-1 against Arizona State.
Wisconsin, previously #3, got 32 first-place votes and 969 ballot points to earn the top spot. North Dakota is the new #2. Denver, Boston College, and Providence round out the top five.
The Badger men skate back into Big Ten Conference play with two games at Michigan State on Friday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, the unbeaten (12-0-0) Badger women’s hockey team held on to their #1 ranking after sitting idle last weekend. Wisconsin received 17 of 20 first-place votes in the Top 15, with the other three going to Ohio State.
The Buckeyes are 9-1-0 on the season. Wisconsin and Ohio State will meet this weekend in Columbus for a pair of WCHA games.
Ohio State scored a two-game sweep of Bemidji State last weekend.
