WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – In an interview over the weekend, national security adviser Jake Sullivan stated that Hamas terrorists are utilizing civilian facilities, including hospitals, as shields against Israeli soldiers within Gaza.
Sullivan made the remarks during a Sunday interview on CBS News’ Face The Nation saying, “Without getting into intelligence information, we can just look at the open source reporting that Hamas is using hospitals, as it uses many other civilian facilities, for command and control, for weapons storage, to house its fighters,” Sullivan said. “And this is a violation of the laws of war.”
He pointed out that Israeli forces have made every effort to find ways to reduce the number of civilian casualties while they continue to attack Hamas forces.
When questioned about claims made by the Gaza Health Ministry, which is controlled by Hamas, regarding the number of Palestinian deaths, Sullivan stated that the United States does not believe the data that is being made public from inside Gaza.
“We don’t have fidelity on the numbers of casualties, fatalities in Gaza,” he went on to say. “We don’t know how many are fighters and how many are innocent civilians.”
According to The Daily Wire, on Saturday, Israel released footage showing the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) protecting 50,000 Gazans as they fled to the southern part of the region. Israel opened the evacuation route for the seventh day in a row to allow Palestinians to flee the area where IDF forces are currently operating.
