WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — North Central Health Care in Wausau is nearly ready to put the remodeled Lakeside Recovery Center into service.
NCHC Director of Acute Care Services Wendy Peterson says the new space will allow them to provide better service to those who check themselves in for rehab. “It’s an amazing opportunity for our communities. To be able to help individuals who are beginning that journey to recovery.”
The remodeled space features an open floor plan and eight double rooms. There’s also a large picture window that overlooks the Wisconsin River, which is designed to provide a calming atmosphere for a stressful time.
“Recovery is a difficult journey. To have a space that is relaxing and calm helps them to find safety and security in a setting where they can embrace what they want to learn and how they want to recover,” said Peterson.
Lakeside opened as an eight-bed facility and has undergone several renovations over the years. The latest upgrade expands their capacity to 16 beds.
Peterson adds that the facility is one of many tools NCHC has to help those struggling with addiction. “We want to meet them where they are at. No matter where someone is in their journey, no matter what their need is NCHC is committed to helping them get to [recovery,]” added Peterson.
Officials held an open house and ribbon cutting for the facility on Wednesday. Peterson says the facility should open for patients by early next year.
