WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – It is all about hands-on learning during Apprenticeship Week at North Central Technical College.
One of the local businesses partnered with the program is Marathon Plumbing Service where co-owner Chris Freund has been teaching apprentices for the last eight years.
For one apprentice, keeping the cost down on the valuable education he gets from Freund is a big help. “It’s a great alternative, and the biggest thing for me is I did not have to start in debt,” said 5th-year plumbing apprentice Bryce Seubert. “Whereas, with a traditional 4-year, you have such an upfront cost, that the apprenticeship doesn’t have that, and it allows you to hit the ground running.”
Seubert and Freund dive deep into the grit and grime of local homes and businesses’ plumbing, which they are both passionate about.
When the hands-on work wraps up, that’s when Seubert and other apprentices do classroom work mastering Wisconsin’s plumbing codes.
Seubert is in his last year of the apprenticeship and said he cannot wait to get into his new career.
