MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Karter Butt helped the Edgar Wildcats run away from Black Hawk/Warren 36-6 in the WIAA Division 7 State Football Championship
Butt recorded five rushing touchdowns including a 42-yard scamper in the first quarter. He finished the game with 171 yards on 19 carries, an average of 9 yards per attempt.
QB Tucker Streit has just three pass attempts and one completion, a three-yard pass to Leyton Schuett. None of those passing attempts came in the second half.
Streit also has five carries for 44 yards.
The Wildcats held a 14-6 lead at halftime after Black Hawk/Warren scored with 16 seconds remaining in the half to cut the lead, but Edgar would score 15 unanswered points in the third quarter to pull away.
Butt’s five rushing touchdowns set a new Division 7 State Championship Game record and tied the record for any division.
Edgar finishes the year with a 13-1 record. Black Hawk/Warren falls to 12-2.
The Division 6 title game came down to a 32-yard field goal from German exchange student Laurenz Plattner as Stratford defeated Darlington 10-7.
The Tigers trailed 7-0 at the break but leveled the game in the 3rd quarter on a nine-yard touchdown run from Koehler Kilty. The two teams remained deadlocked until late in the 4th when Stratford attempted a 30-yard kick inside of the final minute.
Plattner, who had not attempted a field goal all year until Thursday, missed that one. Darlington took over but fumbled the ball back to Stratford. That set up Plattner’s second attempt, which he nailed.
Jack Tubbs finished the game 7-5 passing for 44 yards and one interception. Cole Tichy led the defense with four tackles, including one tackle for a loss, and one interception. That snuffed out a Darlington drive near the end of the first half to keep the score at 7-0.
Stratford finishes the year 13-1. Darlington falls to 12-2.
