MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – As the Milwaukee Brewers continue to retool their roster, one of the team’s biggest names may be pitching elsewhere in 2024.
According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Brewers have had trade discussions surrounding starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff with multiple teams in recent days.
The team announced in October that Woodruff will likely miss the first half of the 2024 season due to a shoulder injury. However, Morosi reports that teams see value in him possibly being available for the second half of the season and that he could remain affordable by signing him to a qualifying offer next off-season.
Milwaukee also has the option to non-tender Woodruff today, making him a free agent. Under that scenario, the Brewers would have to pay for Woodruff’s medical care until he either signs elsewhere or re-signs with the Brewers on a new deal.
Woodruff is 46-26 with a 3.10 ERA and 788 strikeouts in 680 1/3 innings across parts of seven Major League seasons.
