GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers are re-signing veteran running back James Robinson following Aaron Jones’ and Emanual Wilson’s injuries against the Chargers.
James Robinson’s signing was first reported by Bill Huber of Packer Central. The Packers will need to make a matching cut to open a spot for Robinson.
“I can see why this guy rushed for 1,000 yards as a rookie,” position coach Ben Sirmans said about Robinson. “You can see he’s got good vision, he’s got good instincts, and he’s patient. His ability to find a crease is because he moves just fast enough to let things develop in front of him, and then he can interpret what he sees and, bam, he’s hitting it. I’ve been pretty pleased with him. I totally feel confident that, if he’s got to go in the game, he would give us some production based on what I’ve seen so far without being live.”
Even though Robinson is only 25 years old, he has struggled to get back to his old self after his 2021 Achilles injury. Robinson was dealt from Jacksonville to the New York Jets in 2022 but only managed an average of 3.9 yards per carry before joining the New York Giants this off-season.
The Packers have not said how long the injuries to Jones or Wilson will take to heal, but head coach Matt LaFleur did say that Jones is “in good spirits, and hopefully it’s just a short-term deal.”
