STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza is once again rolling out the red carpet for Small Business Saturday.
Wiza says many of those businesses will be open extra hours and holding holiday specials or sales to help everyone get unique gifts for those on their lists. He says that gifts from small businesses often come with personal stories and meaning that you won’t get from a big-box or online retailer. “You’ll get some really unique, custom, and thoughtful gifts at downtown shops and throughout the city.”
The city will also be offering free bus rides on all buses and routes each Friday between now and Christmas to make it easy to get to businesses in downtown and other parts of the city as well.
Wiza hopes residents will also look to small businesses to fill their needs once the holidays are over as well. “If there’s a fundraiser for your kid’s softball [team] or a benefit for someone who may not be feeling well these people will be stepping up to make donations.”
Small Business Saturday was coined by American Express in 2010 and officially recognized by the US Small Business Administration one year later.
