WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – ON Thanksgiving morning, shoes were laced and paces were set for the annual Marathon County United Way Turkey Trot, which kicked off their Thanksgiving traditions just as the sun began to rise on Thursday morning.
Runners of many abilities walked, jogged, and sprinted to the finish line. Some say there are numerous reasons why individuals love the event, but one runner in particular found it to be particularly memorable.
“This is like my first official organized 5K run since then and so it’s kind of a return for me, but again I also do this for those who can’t,” said Wausau resident Jerry Rhoden.
Every race has a first-place winner, and Ben Stangel, a track and cross country athlete from University of Wisconsin La Crosse, took home the gold this year for the second consecutive year.
