MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Jackson Chourio, the top prospect for the Milwaukee Brewers, is in talks with the team about a deal that would be historic for a player who has yet to appear in a major league game.
MLB.com’s No. 2 prospect, Chourio, is reportedly negotiating a “landmark contract” with the two parties, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Rosenthal further reported that despite Chourio only appearing in six games above Double-A, his contract “would be longer and guarantee him more money,” than the deal given to Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert.
Robert signed the largest contract ever given to a player with no major league experience worth a six-year, $50 million deal with the White Sox back in 2020.
Rosenthal says that if a deal is made, “it would remove service time as a consideration for the Brewers in their decision on when to promote him, and likely ensure his place in their Opening Day lineup.”
Chourio played in Double-A Biloxi for most of 2023, hitting.280 with 22 home runs and a.803 OPS. But after reaching Triple-A Nashville, the outfielder continued to excite scouts, batting.333 with no home runs in just 24 plate appearances.
