WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Long time local meteorologist Tony Schumacher is retiring from broadcast television.
He announced on November 30: “The day comes for all of us when we need to turn the page into the next chapter of our lives. For me that day is here, as I am retiring from WAOW-TV and my television broadcasting career. For the past 30 years being a television meteorologist has been the center of my life. Of those 30 years, 28 have been spent in the Wausau – Rhinelander television market, with nearly 25 right here at Channel 9.”
“This is a time of mixed emotions for me and my wife Kathy but mostly we are grateful for the wonderful opportunities this job has given us. I am thankful for all the skilled and kind people that I worked with over the years. I am appreciative of the many loyal viewers who supported my work and WAOW’s mission in general,” Schumacher wrote.
Several years ago Schumacher cut back his on-air work to weekends and fill-ins only.
He will continue to operate the Great Lakes Weather Service.
