MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Wisconsin dominated the second and third sets to eliminate Miami (FL) and secure hosting rights for the next two rounds of the NCAA Championship.
Anna Smrek recorded 14 kills and four blocks in the win. Sarah Franklin added 13 kills, while Temi Thomas-Ailara recorded 10 kills
Setter MJ Hammill recorded 26 set assists and 12 digs.
Wisconsin was efficient in the attack, hitting .314 in the match with 47 total kills and 11 attack errors on 114 swings at the net.
Attack errors are subtracted from kills when calculating attack percentage, meaning a team can hit for a negative number in a match.
The Hurricanes kept the first set close at 25-23, nearly forcing extra points. Wisconsin then won the second and third at 25-15 and 25-17.
Joining Wisconsin in the Sweet Sixteen in Madison will be Penn State, Purdue, and Oregon. The Badgers will play the Nittany Lions in the next round, with the winner facing either the Ducks or the Boilers.
ESPN has not announced match times.
The second round of the tournament will wrap up today. Big Ten teams that are in action are Nebraska (vs Missouri) and Minnesota (vs Creighton).
