MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – According to sources who spoke to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, center fielder Jackson Chourio, 19, and the Milwaukee Brewers have officially reached an agreement on an eight-year, $82 million contract with two club options that could raise the deal’s total worth to $142.5 million.
Chourio arrived in the United States last week to complete the deal, according to Brewers Beat reporter Curt Hogg. He’ll be conducting a press conference with the Brewers in the coming days before his return flight home if all goes as planned.
Born in Venezuela, Chourio signed with the Brewers in 2021 at 16. He played Double-A ball for most of 2023, hitting.280/.336/.467 with 22 home runs, rising to the No. 3 prospect in baseball according to ESPN’s rankings and the No. 2 prospect according to MLB.com.
Passan further reports that Chourio is expected to be on the Brewers’ Opening Day roster and make his MLB debut on March 28th against the New York Mets and his American Family Field debut on April 2nd against the Minnesota Twins.
