GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Green Bay Packers claimed David Long, a 2019 third-round pick, off of the Carolina Panthers’ waiver list on Monday.
The Packers will be Long’s third team this season. In November, the Panthers claimed him off waivers after he inked a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders in March.
According to the Packers Wire, throughout five seasons in the league, Long has had 96 tackles, eight pass breakups, and one interception. He has 513 career special team snaps and 1,219 career defensive snaps.
Long’s joining the team implies that Eric Stokes is still not ready to return from injured reserve and that the Packers are facing additional cornerback injuries, such as Jaire Alexander.
The Packers released receiver Bo Melton and running back James Robinson (who were both re-signed to the practice squad) and activated safety Darnell Savage from injured reserve, which now leaves the team with an opening on the 53-man roster.
