WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man has pled no contest to stealing tens of thousands of dollars from a healthcare clinic.
Christopher Gustafson made the plea in Marathon County court on Tuesday, telling the judge that he has paid the funds back and submitted a letter of apology to the clinic.
Investigators found that the 49-year-old wrote himself more than a half-dozen checks from the clinic’s account, totaling $70,000. The missing funds came to light when the company had trouble meeting payroll in late 2021.
Gustafson was fired in early 2022.
He was fined $500 by Judge Rick Cveykus and given thirty days to either pay or set up a payment plan. He will also submit a DNA sample and pay other court costs.
