KRONENWETTER, WI (WSAU) – The village of Kronenwetter held a public forum on Tuesday night to discuss and hear thoughts about a plan to increase sewer costs.
The plan would raise the costs by 53% due to a $150,000 increase as part of a planned $23 million upgrade to the nearly 40-year-old Rib Mountain Metropolitan Sewerage District’s wastewater treatment facility that Kronenwetter shares with Mosinee, Rothschild, Weston, and Rib Mountain.
Village President Chris Voll talked about the increase, saying, “As you see these items come along, you should upgrade them as you go instead of trying to do them all in one lump sum. We at the village try to do that as well and have gone a couple of years without doing some of our own upgrades, and that’s what got us into a catch-22.”
Some residents questioned exactly how much the rate increases could be individually and the committee stated that they expect 8% rate hikes over the next three years and then 5% rate hikes until 2032. The village has not raised sewer rates since 2015.
