Brittany and Tristan Hull
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Rib Mountain couple is in jail after they were accused of starving a 15-year-old girl to the point where she weighed less than 60 pounds.
Brittany and Tristian Hull are said to have limited the girls’ food and water intake to the point where she weighed 58 pounds. Doctors became aware of the case after she was hospitalized in mid-October when she was rushed to Marshfield Children’s Hospital. First responders say she was unresponsive and stiff, and her organs and bone marrow were failing due to dehydration and starvation.
As the girls’ condition improved she told doctors that her stepmom was controlling her food and drink intake, adding that she was home-schooled and wasn’t allowed to eat breakfast with her siblings. She says she was limited to 16 ounces of water each day and was on a “special diet” that her stepmother had researched.
She was also forced to eat in the living room, away from the rest of the family, and at times needed help using utensils due to her condition.
No other children in the home showed signs of malnourishment, according to investigators.
Both Brittany and Tristian have been jailed since early November. They are being held on a $ million bond each, facing charges of chronic child neglect and child abuse- causing great bodily harm. Should they post bond, they will not be allowed to have contact with each other, the victim, or any other children in the home. The case is set for a preliminary hearing on December 18th.
