MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — A 54-year-old Irma man has been bound over for trial on charges that he took officers on a multi-county chase when they tried to pull him over for having illegal license plates on his vehicle.
Bernard Robertson was in court on Friday where a judge bound him over for trial and scheduled arraignment. Charges against him stem from an incident last Saturday where officers attempted a stop in the Town of Pine River after they observed the illegal plates on his vehicle.
After the officers discovered that Robertson had outstanding warrants he took off, leading to a high-speed chase that ended in Marathon County when Robertson crashed into a tree. He then fled on foot.
During the chase, two officers fell down a 20-30 foot embankment. Despite their injuries, they still managed to take him down and bring him into custody.
The action came after Robertson’s team had requested dismissal for two charges, which was granted. He is now facing a single count of fleeing or eluding an officer.
Robertson is also facing charges in Chippewa County for charges of receiving stolen property. His next hearing for that case is on December 12th.
He returns to court in Lincoln County on January 8th. In the meantime, he’s being held on a $10,000 cash bond.
