STRATFORD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The two-time defending Division 6 champion Stratford Tigers will not defend their championship in 2024.
Instead, they’ll be playing for the D5 title.
WAOW TV reports that Stratford’s appeal of their mandatory bump was denied, and they have accepted the reclassification.
Athletic Director Craig Martens released a statement to WAOW Saying “The School District of Stratford respects the decision of the WIAA to decline our appeal of being moved up to Division 5 for football. Now that the appeal process has been completed, we are looking forward to the challenge of being up a division. We take this decision as a sign of respect for our athletes, coaches, parents, and community members and an indicator of the hard work and efforts that have contributed to our past success. This decision will only motivate us to work even harder and strive for even greater accomplishments.”
The move is part of the WIAA’s Tournament Performance Factor (TPF) formula. By winning two state titles in the same division, Stratford has eight TPF points in the last two years. Any program that accumulates six such points in three years moves up a class for the next season.
Stratford is the only area football program that will be reclassified based on TPF. Two local cross-country programs are being impacted- Pacelli’s boys and Phillips’ girls. Both will move up a division next year.
