Wausau, WI (WSAU)- Quaker Oats has recalled several of its granola bars as well as cereal, saying the foods may have been contaminated with salmonella.
Salmonella is an organism that can get into food preparation if the handling and production process of the food is unsanitary. The bacteria is most typically spread in raw or undercooked foods. According to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), salmonella infections may cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pains.
Pepsico the owner of Quaker, said in a news release that the company has not had any confirmed reports of illness connected to the recall. The company asks that consumers throw away any of the affected products, and may contact consumer relations for additional information and a product reimbursement. The various affected products have been sold in the U.S., Puerto Rico as well as Guam and Saipan.
