WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man facing attempted homicide charges will go to trial next summer.
A judge scheduled a week-long trial for Richard Mason to run from August 26th through the 30th for one felony count of attempted homicide. The 30-year-old is accused of shooting another man once in the abdomen during an argument at a home on Emter Street in 2022.
The victim survived the shooting and was able to go to a nearby home for help. Mason left the scene and was arrested without incident when officers found his vehicle on Lake View Drive.
Witnesses say Mason also stood over the victim executioner style and shouted “you ruined my life” to them before he fled the scene. He has been held in the Marathon County Jail on a $250,000 bond while awaiting trial.
Mason had originally been scheduled for trial in the summer of 2023 but that was called off when his public defender pulled out of the case. A jury status hearing is scheduled for July 26th.
