ELLSWORTH, WI (WSAU-WAOW) A man accused of scamming a western Wisconsin woman out of more than $400,000 worth of gold will be sentenced in March.
Gourav Patel, from Stevens Point and previously from Chicago, was charged in July with bilking a Prescott woman. She said she got an iPad notification that her identity was stolen. When she called the number that was provided, she was told she was now under witness protection.
She was told to invest in gold bars and that someone would come to her home and pick them up. This happened three times. Wednesday in Pierce County court, Patel pleaded guilty to felony theft. He faces up to twelve and a half years in prison when he’s sentenced.
