MEDFORD, WI (WSAU) — A man wanted in Taylor County for running a blacktop paving scam was fined for violating the “peace and good order” ordinance.
Court records show that Brandon Ferguson was fined $401 for soliciting direct sales without registering with the county. The 34-year-old pled no contest and paid the fine before his court date, with the judge then finding him guilty.
Ferguson was accused of defrauding at least one person by claiming his company had a cache of leftover pavement from a recent blacktopping project. He offered to perform some work for them at a discounted rate, but after securing the agreement with the client he strongarmed them into paying more.
Similar complaints against him have come from the Abbotsford and Eau Claire areas.

Ferguson had been facing charges of identity theft and fraud against a financial institution. Instead, he was charged with engaging in direct sales to residents without registering for that purpose with the Sheriff’s Office.
Taylor County requires all direct sellers to provide information such as their name, permanent address, and nature of their business. The seller is also required to give a physical description of anyone who will be selling and information on the vehicles they will be using to conduct business.
