STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Another Central Wisconsin resident is launching a long-shot bid for one of the state’s US Senate seats in 2023.
Private Investigator Kyle Corrigan announced his candidacy on Wednesday, saying he knows getting into the race is a tall order but a recent case has compelled him to get involved.
“A recent investigation has taken me into politics, and [what I saw] was unsettling to say the least,” said Corrigan. “The level of money laundering that I saw, political money laundering with Super PACS, was deeply concerning. Locating FTC records and interviewing these people, hearing their story, it was really concerning.”
Corrigan didn’t elaborate further on the nature of the case but said he’s turned some of the evidence over to current Senator Ron Johnson’s office and also consulted with State Senator Patrick Testin. He then decided the best way to make a change was to be the change himself. “Actions speak louder than words, and if not me, than who?”
Corrigan says this will be his first election as a candidate and describes himself as a moderate Republican who grew up in a two-party household. “My father is a Democrat who spent 40 years on the railroad with the union and my mom is a Republican. So we’re used to a house divided and having to work together.”
He adds that he has filed all the appropriate paperwork with the FTC and WEC and will start planning campaign events soon.
So far no big-name Republicans have stepped up to challenge Baldwin, who has announced that she will run for a third term next November. Corrigan is the second Central Wisconsin resident to announce a bid for the seat alongside UWSP student Rejani Raveendran.
Corrigan has a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville ’22 and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology & Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside ’08. Kyle grew up in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and graduated from (SPASH) Stevens Point Area Senior High ’02, where he played basketball. Kyle lives in Mosinee, WI, with his wife, Amy, and their two children.
