WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man accused of providing the drugs that led to the death of another person has pled not guilty to the charges.
Matthew Gesicki entered the plea Thursday morning to multiple counts covering two open cases including reckless homicide and manufacturing and delivering drugs. Investigators say the 36-year-old had 50 grams of meth and ten grams of fentanyl in his possession when he was arrested last May.
The street value of the drugs is estimated at around $157,000.
Additionally, officers say he provided the drugs to a Wausau-area woman who overdosed on them and died. According to the woman’s boyfriend, Gesicki told him to be careful with the dosage because he had “been putting fentanyl in everything.”
Charges against Gesicki also carry repeat modifiers, which could increase the penalties against him at trial. No trial dates have been set. If found guilty he could face up to 80 years in prison on the two most serious charges alone- possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver and reckless homicide through the delivery of drugs.
Further court action is scheduled for February 8th.
