MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to a minor-league deal with veteran utility catcher Austin Nola.
Nola, the brother of Philadelphia Phillies ace Aaron Nola, has been with the San Diego Padres for the last 4 seasons and has a career batting average of .249 with an on-base percentage of .326 since he entered the league in 2019.
The signing of Nola could set up a possible battle for the Brewers at the catcher position after the team signed former Detroit Tigers catcher/outfielder Eric Haase last month. Milwaukee also has top prospect Jeferson Quero on the big league 40-man roster, so Nola is not expected to be a roster invitee.
