The Wausau School Board is set to go into closed session Monday evening to discuss the hiring of a demographer to help with the proposed restructuring of elementary school boundaries and a consulting firm to help in the search for a new Superintendent.
Those topics come to the board after action from last month’s special meeting, during which they discussed hiring someone to explore population trends in the community, with some noting that the district’s previous population data was outdated. Board Members agreed that getting new data would allow them to make an informed decision on where the boundaries should be and if any schools should be closed or consolidated.
Superintendent Keith Hilts and the administration team were instructed to bring information back to them regarding what demographers would be available for hire.
The board also accepted Hilts’ resignation as part of a closed session, which was announced in a media release the next morning. Hilts has been in Wausau since 2018 and has guided the district through funding referendums, the COVID-19 pandemic, and restructuring discussions.
The closed session also includes a request by a parent to address the board.
Monday’s meeting begins at 5:00 PM at the Longfellow Administration Building.
