SHAWANO, WI (WSAU) — The trial for a Shawano County man accused of strangling a woman to death will now go to trial later this spring.
A four-day trial was scheduled to begin this morning for Michael Ingold, but court records show that has been replaced with three days of hearings and a two-week jury trial in May. It’s unclear why the trial was rescheduled, though court records show there were concerns raised regarding video evidence during a hearing in late December. Additionally, Ingold’s defense team requested the court to pay for transcripts, which requires a waiver known as an affidavit of indigency.
Ingold is said to have strangled the unidentified woman in June of 2022. While it’s not clear if he and the woman were in a relationship, the charges against him do carry domestic abuse modifiers.
Investigators note that there have been previous incidents between Ingold and the woman, including a case from 2021 in which he was accused of strangling her and operating a firearm while intoxicated.
Ingold faces one count of first-degree intentional homicide in a domestic abuse setting. Those charges come with a mandatory life sentence if he’s found guilty, with only the possibility of parole to be discussed at sentencing.
