WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – After escaping from supervised parole release last month, a 25-year-old man was apprehended in Houston, Texas, on Friday in connection with a Marathon County warrant.
According to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Service, Peter Jewell-Reigel, a Wisconsin fugitive who was found guilty in 2017 of second-degree sexual assault of a child, was captured by U.S. Marshals on Friday after a 13-hour standoff. The fugitive was also accused of having unapproved and unsupervised contact with a 13-year-old female in December 2023.
In 2016, Jewell-Reigel had a Mosinee address, according to court documents, and in addition to the 2017 second-degree sexual abuse of a child, Jewell Reigel has previous convictions for disorderly conduct and battery.
Investigators found Jewell-Reigel asleep in a car in a Houston hotel parking lot on Thursday at around one p.m. Jewell-Reigel had a knife, and when USMS members made contact with him, there was a standoff that lasted for several hours.
Around two in the morning on Friday, Jewell-Reigel was taken into custody with the assistance of police negotiators.
