COLUMBIA CO, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – On Sunday morning, the Columbia County Dispatch Center received a report of two snowmobiles falling through the ice on Lake Wisconsin in Sunset Bay.
Officials said it occurred at 11 a.m. They received a report that one person was in the water and another was on the ice.
A Columbia County deputy arrived at the scene in minutes and discovered one individual in the water around 100 years from the shore. Civilians were attempting an ice rescue.
The deputy, a Lodi firefighter, and two citizens approached the victim in the water. Officials said they were able to toss a ski rope to the individual and pull him from the lake and onto shore.
The male in the water was wearing snowmobiling-specific flotation gear. Officials claim that considerably facilitated his rescue.
The incident has been reported to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
