WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – In advance of the state’s primary election, an ABC News and WMUR debate scheduled for this Thursday in New Hampshire has been canceled.
According to the Post Millennial, the three remaining qualified candidates had until Tuesday afternoon to reply to invitations from ABC News and WMUR, a TV station in New Hampshire. Neither the Trump campaign nor the Haley campaign responded to the outlets.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a statement that Haley was “afraid to debate because she doesn’t want to answer the tough questions,” adding that he would be willing to attend the debate and “look forward to debating two empty podiums in the Granite State this week.”
A spokesperson for ABC News released a statement on the matter, saying, “Our intent was to host a debate coming out of the Iowa caucuses, but we always knew that would be contingent on the candidates and the outcome of the race. As a result, while our robust election coverage will continue, ABC News and WMUR-TV will not be moving forward with Thursday’s Republican presidential primary debate in New Hampshire.”
Haley announced her decision not to attend on X on Tuesday morning, claiming that Trump has “ducked” all of the primary debates thus far and that she would only debate former President Trump or President Joe Biden going forward.
