STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A fire broke out at North Crest Assisted Living on Wednesday night. 23 residents are without a home.
Stevens Point Fire Department Assistant Chief Dennis Zvara described the night the station received the call. “Last night at 10:46 p.m. the Stevens Point Fire Department was paged out to their local CBRF (Community-Based Residential Facilities). Automatically the Plover Fire Department were also paged out because of the nature of the call as units arrived they had smoke coming from the eves of the structure,” said Zvara.
Thirty minutes later the fire was put out and all residents were moved to different a building within the Copper Leaf Senior living community.
“When it happened they were a bit tired, most are doting off in recliners and sofa’s and everyone is comfortable,” said Krista Mendyke, President and Co-owner of Copperleaf Senior Living.
The fire resulted in zero injuries, as Zvara stated the severity of the fire. “Damage to the building is mostly smoke damage and overall into ceiling which did have to be taken down because the fire was in the attic, but the actual damage to the actual structure is some drywall damage and smoke,” said Zvara.
Officials don’t know what caused the fire.
