WASHINGTON DC (WSAU) – As the U.S. moves its attention toward the New Hampshire primaries, former President Trump reportedly has an unexpected VP candidate in mind.
According to NBC News, New York Rep. Elise Stefanik is “on the top of his list,” as she is set to join the former President on the campaign trail in New Hampshire this week.
One Republican operative who spoke to the outlet said that Stefanik possesses a quality that Trump values most, saying, “If you’re Trump, you want someone who’s loyal above all else, particularly because he sees Mike Pence as having made a fatal sin.”
Trump has praised Stefanik in recent weeks, with attendees of a dinner noting that he called her a “killer” due to her handling of the Congressional hearings on antisemitism on college campuses that led to the firing of two Ivy League Chancellors.
“I’m not going to get into any of my conversations with President Trump. I’m honored to call him a friend. I’m proud to be the first member of Congress to endorse his re-election, and he had a huge win in Iowa. So we’re very excited about that,” Stefanik told NBC News.
However, she did not rule out being interested in the position, saying, “Well, I, of course, would be honored to serve in any capacity in a Trump administration.”
The New York Post reports that the former President is not currently in the Granite State as he is set to attend his mother-in-law’s funeral on Thursday at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea in Palm Beach, Florida, despite Judge Lewis Kaplan’s decision to not grant his request for a recess from the E. Jean Carroll trail due to her passing.
The latest poll out of New Hampshire from Saint Anselm College shows Trump ahead of Nikki Haley by 14 points and by 40 points among registered Republicans, as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has dropped to just 6%, which is a whopping 46 points behind Trump.
