SANTA CLARA, CA (WSAU) – The Packers stumbled in the fourth quarter in a season-ending 24-21 loss to the 49ers.
Things began unraveling for the Packers when rookie kicker Anders Carlson missed a 4o-yard field goal with the Packers clinging to a 4-point lead. The 49ers took the lead for good on the drive that followed, capped off by a 6-yard run by Christian McCaffrey.
Still the Packers had the ball with 1:07 remaining and all three time outs with a chance for a game-tying field goal. Three plays into the drive Jordan Love was intercepted by Dre Greenlaw on a poorly thrown ball to the center of the field.
San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy struggled at times throwing the ball in the rain. He did not turn the ball over, and went 23-of-32 for 252 yards and one touchdown. Jordan Love was 21-of-34 for 197 yards. He threw a touchdown pass, and was intercepted twice.
Aaron Jones carried for 104 yards, his third consecutive 100-yard game. McCaffrey had 98 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns.
The 49ers advance to the NFC Championship Game against either the Lions or Buccaneers. The Packers season ends with a 9-9 record and an unexpected playoff run.
