GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers officially landed their spot in the 2024 NFL draft, which will be much lower than many thought only a couple of months ago.
The Green Bay Packers will hold the 25th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 draft after finishing 9-8 qualifying for the postseason as the 7th seed in the NFC and moving on to the divisional round before falling 24-21 to the San Francisco 49ers.
Thanks to the trades of Aaron Rodgers to New York and Rasul Douglas to Buffalo during the season, the Packers will also have extra selections in the second and third rounds.
Currently, the Packers’ top areas to improve or build for the future include safety/cornerback, offensive tackle, running back, and defensive line. Some prospects who may be on the Packers’ early first-round draft board include Miami safety Kamren Kinchens, Minnesota safety Tyler Nubin, Washington offensive tackle Troy Fautanu, Missouri cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Duke interior offensive lineman Graham Barton, and Miami defensive lineman Leonard Taylor.
The Packers are expected to target skill players such as Michigan running back Blake Corum, Oregon running back Bucky Irving, Louisville wide receiver Jamari Thrash, Colorado State receiver Tory Horton, and Wisconsin running back Braelon Allen with their later draft picks.
Some may argue the Packers’ biggest off-season need is at the kicker position and some of the targets they’re expected to look at include Missouri kicker Harrison Mevis, Standford kicker Joshua Karty, and Alabama kicker Will Reichard.
The 2024 draft will be held in Detroit, and the first round is set to begin on April 25.
