MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Bucks fans heard surprising news late Tuesday night, only hours after head coach Adrian Griffin’s official firing was made public.
Chris Haynes of TNT Sports reports that veteran NBA head coach Doc Rivers will indeed be joining the Milwaukee Bucks, and according to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, Rivers’ contract is anticipated to be “a very lucrative one.”
CNN Sports was the first to report that the Milwaukee Bucks had agreed to a deal with Doc Rivers to be their new head coach, which was walked back shortly after reports that the team was still working on contract details with Rivers.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Rivers is expected to hire former Sacramento Kings head coach Dave Joerger as his top assistant. Joerger most recently spent the last three seasons on Rivers staff in Philadelphia.
In addition to Rivers and Golden State Warriors Assistant Coach Kenny Atkinson, Haynes stated that former ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy and former Atlanta Hawks coach Nate McMillan were also listed as possible contenders for the head coaching position.
