WASHINGTON DC (WSAU) – After former President Trump defeated Nikki Haley by 11 points on Tuesday night, several national polls show Trump continuing to pull away from President Joe Biden in the expected presidential rematch.
According to Reuters/Ipsos, Trump currently holds a six-point lead over Biden nationally and a 45-point lead over Nikki Haley in the Republican primary. This lead represents a large shift due to Reuters having the candidates tied in their previous poll from earlier this month.
Their poll also asked respondents how they felt about the candidates’ advanced ages, with 70% saying President Biden should not seek reelection due to his age and 56% saying the same about Trump.
Harvard/HarrisX saw a similar lead for Trump nationally, with him leading Biden by 7 points and by 9 points if Robert Kennedy Jr. is on the ballot come November. Kennedy Jr. received 12% of the vote in their poll which took a large portion of moderate/lean Democrat votes away from Biden. Independent voters backed Trump in the poll by 7 points as well, though 22% of Independent voters stated that they are currently undecided on who they will support.
The Harvard/HarrisX poll also asked respondents if Donald Trump were to be convicted by a jury of crimes related to handling classified documents and who they’d vote for, with Trump winning in that scenario by 6 points over Biden.
