GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – Not long after news broke that the Packers will interview former Chargers head coach Brandon Staley for their open Defensive Coordinator position, the team has now asked for permission to interview two other highly sought-after candidates.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and ESPN’s Todd Archer, the Packers are hoping to meet with Buffalo Bills Linebackers coach Bobby Babich and Dallas Cowboys defensive line coach Aden Durde in the coming days.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapport also reported that the Packers interviewed 32-year-old Denver Broncos Defensive Backs coach Christian Parker on Friday afternoon. Parker previously worked with the Packers as a defensive quality control coach back in 2019.
The Packers will be Babich’s second official defensive coordinator interview after meeting with the New York Giants earlier this week, with more teams likely to also request permission to speak with him due to Buffalo’s defense finishing fourth in points allowed and ninth in yards allowed in 2023.
Durde has also been a candidate rumored to be on multiple teams’ radar, such as the Los Angeles Rams, after spending the last five seasons working under former Atlanta Falcons coach and current Dallas Cowboys DC Dan Quinn and helping the Cowboys toward a season where their defensive finished in the top five in the league, only allowing 18.5 points and 112 rushing yards per game in 2023, which trailed only the Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, and Buffalo Bills.
