SCHOFIELD, WI (WSAU) – A well-known central Wisconsin daycare facility, KinderCare, may see its daycare license revoked following reports that the center committed countless violations during recent visits.
According to the Wausau Pilot and Review, the center was consistently out of ratio with the children in the room, did not maintain cleanliness in the classrooms or bathrooms, failed to maintain consistent child health records, and was caught performing actions that required the attention of Child Protection Services.
In a letter to parents, Kindercare responded to the state’s actions, saying, “This afternoon, we learned that the state issued a proposed revocation of our license. We believe this decision places unnecessary stress on our families. Your day-to-day experience at the center should not change. The biggest changes are that we cannot enroll any new families at this time without the state’s approval and that we must temporarily stop accepting state tuition subsidies.”
Wausau Pilot and Review highlighted some of the most recent violations from this month in detail, including that the bathrooms “smelled of urine and had dried feces on the inside of the toilet bowls,” a child with an egg allergy was fed a muffin containing eggs and the staff was not aware of the child’s allergy, two employees did not have a background check completed to work in a classroom with children, and one child was even observed sleeping on the floor without a cot, and a cot was not provided to the child until the licensing specialist informed them it was a requirement.
Other violations from December included children moving from classroom to classroom without the staff’s knowledge, a staff member hitting a child on the head with a clipboard, no written record of emergency drills with the date, time, and length of drills, and no daily schedule followed with children being left to engage in unstructured free-play for a majority of the day.
A copy of the revocation letter was not immediately accessible from the state, and the outlet’s attempts to contact KinderCare staff for more information were not successful at this time.
