MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) — Police in Mosinee have confirmed that a bomb threat made to the 988 Crisis Hotline prompted Thursday’s evacuation and Friday’s canceled classes at the Mosinee Schools.
All schools were put on hold at about 12:10 PM when Marathon County Dispatch received word of the threat, which said multiple bombs were hidden on school grounds. Evacuation procedures got underway about 20 minutes later.
All students were safely reunited with their families. No one was injured in the incident.
Law enforcement agencies from across the state were called in to help investigate and clear all three buildings. That included six K9 units trained to detect explosives, police units from Rothschild, Kronenwetter, and Stevens Point areas, the UW Madison PD, and Sheriff’s units from Brown, Wood, and Outagamie Counties.
Search efforts wrapped up by 6:40 PM. Crews determined there was no credible threat, and the buildings were safe.
The school has called for extra therapists and counseling staff to be on hand when classes resume on Monday. District leaders have also noted that they will pursue legal action against whoever made the threat.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Mosinee Police Department at 715-693-2000.
